What was going on with the Internet in 1994When SupraNet Communications started operations in 1994, the first iPhone was still 13 years away. At the beginning of 1994, there were maybe 130 websites* on the World Wide Web (WWW) with their own designated URL's. However, websites for the general public started to propagate and by the end of 1994 there were 2,278 websites* including Yahoo, Cool Site of the Day, Webcrawler and HotWired (Wired Magazine). To "surf" the Internet, most people used the Mosaic Netscape browser that was launched on October 13, 1994. Within four months of its release, it had already commanded three-quarters of the browser market. It was subsequently renamed Netscape Navigator. * www.internetlivestats.com |
