Google morphed into Alphabet. Alphabet is the world's third-largest technology company by revenue and one of the world's most valuable companies. Through a restructuring of Google on October 2, 2015 Alphabet became the parent company of Google and several former Google subsidiaries.

Instagram became bigger than Twitter. In 2015, Facebook-owned Instagram hit 400 million monthly active users — making it larger than rival Twitter.

#BLACKLIVESMATTER — Although the use of the "#BlackLivesMatter" hashtag dates back to 2013, the movement became an inescapable part of the Internet in 2015.
