What was going on with the Internet in 2017Then-President Donald Trump "tweetstorms" on Twitter about "fake news" in the "main stream media." On his last day of work, a Twitter employee deleted Trump's Twitter account because he received a notification that the account had been reported for violating Twitter's terms of service. Trump's Twitter account was deleted for 11 minutes before it could be reactivated. On January 8, 2021 Trump was permanently banned from Twitter "due to the risk of further incitement of violence." However, Elon Musk will buy Twitter on October 28, 2022 for $44 billion and reinstate Trump's account 22 months after it was suspended. Amazon acquired Whole Foods for $14 billion and Whole Foods stores become a distribution "drop-off" site for Amazon returns. Other items that took the Internet and social media by storm in 2017 included the "#Me Too" movement and the Great American Total Solar Eclipse when President Trump was captured peering upward at the eclipse sans protective glasses (or any glasses) instantly becoming a Twitter meme with hash tags like "impulse control" and "Rule of thumb for viewing the eclipse today and every day: Don't be like Trump". |
