SupraNet expands Chicago and T-1 lines to establish first dual-homed service in Madison areaIn 1997 SupraNet Communications continued to upgrade Internet connections to increase access, reliability and minimize potential service outages. Along with their existing T-1 connection to the Chicago NAP, SupraNet added a connection with UUNET to the MAE-Chicago (Metropolitan Area Ethernet), making SupraNet's services "dual-homed" and less likely to be disrupted. This connection also offered Border Gateway Protocol capabilities that allowed SupraNet business and dial-up customers Internet access via the quickest and most efficient route. "This new connection adds another level of redundancy and reliability to our network because our servers are now directly attached to two different Internet backbones. In effect, one backbone connection can completely crash and our service will not be disrupted." — Bryan Chan, SupraNet Communications (1997) |
