TikTok (2018)TikTok, created by ByteDance in 2016, was the most downloaded app in the United States in October 2018. Two years later during the coronavirus pandemic it seemed like everyone and their mother jumped on the TikTok bandwagon. In 2020 the social media app was downloaded 850 million times. To date it has reached over 4.1 billion downloads. And, in 2024, Congress voted to ban it if it is not sold. Sarah Cooper became a star during the Covid quarantine in 2020 by lip-syncing then President Trump's speeches and adding her own context. She racked up over 650,000 followers. However, Cooper was far from the biggest influencer. Khaby Lame is the most followed TikToker worldwide with over 155 million followers, Charli D´ Amelio has over 152 million followers, Dwayne Johnson, also known as 'The Rock' has over 74.2 million followers and Will Smith has over 73 million followers. |
